High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Inc.
- Services for the Elderly or Disabled
- Non Profit
The mission of High Hopes is to improve the lives of people with cognitive, physical and emotional disabilities through the benefits of therapeutic horseback riding and other equine assisted activities, while serving the therapeutic riding profession through training and education.
Annually, High Hopes serves over 1,775 people with the help of more than 675 volunteers. We operate our programs 6 days a week year round with both indoor and outdoor riding facilities as well as an extensive sensory trail. Since 1979, High Hopes has been accredited by Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International, the national organization that sets the standards for the therapeutic riding profession, and we have maintained Premier Accreditation status since it was first instituted by PATH in 1992.
The High Hopes experience combines the healing power of the human-animal bond with targeted and attainable goals. These goals include improvement of our participants’ balance, mobility, coordination, circulation and physical strength. Just as importantly, our individualized programs are carefully designed to teach life skills, build self confidence and encourage independence. In addition to the physical and cognitive benefits, our programs offer our participants opportunities for recreation and success that are rarely available to them. Our students achieve things they thought were completely beyond their reach and these accomplishments have a major impact not only on the lives of the participants themselves but also on their families, teachers and communities.
