Americana Furniture Redesigns Room for Waterford US Marine Veteran and Family

Waterford, CT – During Americana Furniture’s “Applefest and Veteran’s Day Celebration” on November 7, 2015, the iconic Waterford retailer announced that in honor of the November 11th Veteran’s Day, they would provide a complimentary “Room Re-Design” to a local area military veteran. Americana Furniture President, Jon Hendel, proudly introduced U.S. Marine Corps. Veteran Michael Lally of Waterford, who, along with his wife, Gretchen, and sons Christopher (9), Sean (3), and Eric (10 months), would receive the re-design service.

Michael Lally served in the U.S. Marine Corps. for four years, including a deployment to the Mojavi Desert, and two nine-month tours in Iraq in 2003 and 2004, prior to being injured during his service to his country. The Lally family was chosen via a search conducted by the non-profit Make-A-Home Foundation based in Waterbury, Connecticut which helps Veterans and families statewide who are in need.

Mr. Hendel stated, “Since 1922, our continuously-family-owned business has been in eastern Connecticut. Through those more than nine decades, we have been a proud supporter of America’s military. We are grateful for the extensive assistance we received from Mary Harris, veteran’s liaison with the Make-A-Home Foundation in Waterbury, who came here to Waterford several times last fall to connect us with the Lally family to ensure that everyone’s needs were being met. Once we connected with the Lally family, our design team worked diligently to work closely with them to fit all their needs and personal tastes.”

In January 2016, Americana Furniture Administrative Manager, Kathy Hansen, and Design Consultant, Barbli Noel, announced that the “Room Re-Design” was completed for the Lally’s master bedroom. Noel explained, “The Lallys wanted a ‘grown-up’ master bedroom with a good deal of storage. They had a king-sized bed so we switched that to a Broyhill ‘Hayden Place’ Oak Queen storage bed with two drawers in the footboard. Gretchen Lally requested a light wood finish, so we selected an oak finish.” The Lally’s also received a matching “Hayden Place” dresser with mirror, a bureau and nightstand.

Hansen continued, “As a large family, their master bedroom also needed to be family and pet friendly. Switching to a queen-sized bed opened up significant floor space, and our design team chose a large Sphinx/Oriental Weavers 8’ x 11’ “Revival” Rug with a soft rug pad that covered a good amount of their hard wood floor. The “Revival” rug offers a vintage look with swirls of medium aqua teal and sand colors. The rug and rug pad were generously donated by Oriental Weavers/Sphinx.”

Designer Noel commented, “When we visited the home we noted their whimsical use of color throughout every room. We chose to compliment the home’s decor with a palette of aqua blues, fresh greens, and sunny roses and yellows in the master bedroom. The walls were painted with Benjamin Moore’s “Robin’s Nest” by our paint team of Paul Hansen and Chris Sheehan. We also painted the trim a crisp white and installed a new pair of folding panel doors on the closet.”

Once the painting was completed, Americana Furniture delivered the Lally’s new furnishings. The design team had retained the room’s three good-sized windows and installed brushed bronze rods which the team later hung with a simple natural linen blend, creamy ivory curtains that can mute strong daylight or easily be swept to the side for more light.

Noel explained, “Much of the room’s color scheme revolved around the beautiful bedding ensemble we selected. Playful flowers and vines are embroidered on the duvet cover and pillow shams. An eclectic mix of European shams and decorative pillows created both a playful and elegant result. Beneath the bedding we placed an Americana Furniture Private Label “Jordan” mattress in a firmer style as requested. The queen-sized mattress is also flip-able. To add interest and a bit of femininity to the room, we chose a Stein World “Shannon” accent chest to double as a bedside night stand for Mrs. Lally. Along with offering even more storage in the form of drawers, the piece’s hand painted details of soft gold mimic the vines on the bed coverings.”

Americana Furniture’s design team strove to compliment the room with lighting that accents the room rather than overpower it. “We placed ‘Tuscany Beige’ colored, architecturally-interesting lamps on each side of the bed with simple ‘Florentine Brass’ mini lamps on the mirrored dresser. Their light reflects softly in the mirror and the color balances with that of the accent chest across the room.’

The team finished the room with what is described as a, “Fun duo of colorful ‘Propac Peacocks in Trees’ art works made in metallic bronze and placed in wood frames that greet the homeowners each time they enter their new master bedroom. On the opposite wall, we placed a trio of burnished bronze, metal wall art flowers hangs that add interest with their airy spacing.”
