Bill Stanley is This Year's Crawford Award Recipient

VP of Development & Community Relations for Lawrence + Memorial Hospital/Yale New Haven Health to Receive Prestigious Award at Dinner Celebration This Fall

Eastern CT – The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut has announced that William “Bill” Stanley, Vice President of Development and Community Relations for Lawrence + Memorial Hospital/Yale New Haven Health, has been selected as the 2017 recipient of the William Crawford Distinguished Service Award. He will be honored at a dinner celebration on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa.

The William Crawford Distinguished Service Award is presented periodically to outstanding individuals who exemplify the spirit of service to one’s neighbors, and who have contributed to improving the quality of life in eastern CT. The award is named for William Crawford, General Manager of Southeastern CT Broadcast Corporation, who became well-known for generating community interest through his station’s programming.

Stanley was selected because of his decades of service to eastern CT’s non-profit community. Among his numerous accomplishments are serving for six years as Commissioner of the New London Development Corporation; chairing the American Heart Walk Association’s Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk for five years, for which he helped coordinate over 12,000 participants and raised more than $900,000; participating for nine years in the New London Rotary Club; and serving the United Way of Southeastern CT for thirteen years, including twelve years on its Campaign Cabinet and one year as Campaign Chair. He currently sits on the Three Rivers Community College Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Additionally, Stanley has also sat on the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT’s Board of Directors for twenty years, serving as Chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors in 2004 and again in 2012. His most recent term on the Board ended in 2015.

“The Crawford Award honors those who go above and beyond the call of duty in helping one’s neighbors, and there’s hardly a better qualified recipient than Bill Stanley,” said Tony Sheridan, President & CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT. “For decades, he has given very generously his time and his many talents in serving numerous organizations that enhance the quality of life in eastern CT. Whether coordinating fundraising campaigns or assisting with community events, Bill is always there. He is a friend to all, and the Chamber is very pleased to recognize him for his accomplishments.”

“I want to enthusiastically congratulate Bill Stanley on this award,” said Patrick Green, President and CEO of L+M Healthcare, L+M Hospital and Westerly Hospital. “Since I arrived at L+M, I have been spending a lot of time meeting an array of dedicated and caring people from all walks of the local business and community life. One thing they all seem to have in common: how much Bill means to this community and the L+M organization. They all have a tremendous amount of respect for Bill.”

“Bill’s long history in our community, from his early years as a newspaper reporter, his activism and political expertise on important issues at the State Capitol in Hartford, and his tireless dedication to the promotion of healthcare in our community, truly make him a worthy recipient of this prestigious honor from the Chamber,” said Green.
