Charter Oak Donates More Than $75,000 In Its Fourth Quarter

Credit Union Funds 11 Grants and Donates to 10 Local Food Pantries in December

Waterford, CT – Charter Oak Federal Credit Union donated more than $75,000 to community organizations in its fourth-quarter.

Donating food and money to local food pantries has become a key funding initiative for Charter Oak. This past December, the credit union donated $34,000 to local food pantries in an effort to help them restock their pantry shelves after the busy holiday season. Each food pantry received an unsolicited $3,400 donation. Recipients included: St. Mary’s Church Food Pantry; St. Vincent de Paul Place; The New London Community Meal Center; Friends of Assisi Food Pantry; Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality; Covenant Soup Kitchen; New London Area Food Pantry; Care & Share of East Lyme, Inc.; the New London Homeless Hospitality Center; and the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center.   

In addition, the credit union funded 11 grant requests totaling $34,600, and sponsored several community initiatives totaling more than $6,400. Grant recipients included the American Red Cross; Access Community Action Agency; Connecticut Invention Convention; Connecticut Storytelling Center; Connecticut Radio Information System; Eugene O’Neill Theater Center; Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center; Groton Community Meals; Safe Futures; S.T.E.P.S., Inc.; and the United Way of Southeastern CT.

Charter Oak has been giving back to the communities it serves throughout its history, and has made significant donations to community organizations and local students, totaling more than $1.3 million.
