Charter Oak Honored by United Way

Waterford, CT – Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has received awards from the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut for its innovative fundraising efforts and benefactor support of the Gales Ferry-based social services agency.
           
“We’re honored to receive United Way’s 2014 Innovative Partner of the Year and Benefactor awards,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Charter Oak has been a longtime supporter of United Way, and our employees give generously of their time and money because we all believe in Living United,” he said.

During United Way’s 2014 fundraising campaign, Charter Oak held special dress-down days and sponsored United Way’s “100 X 100” Challenge, where Charter Oak matched each $100 donation  from up to 100 new businesses donating to United Way. The credit union also held a special “Big Chill” event where Charter Oak’s senior staff agreed to be doused with buckets of cold water after employees raised thousands of dollars for United Way.

In addition, Charter Oak employees volunteer each month at United Way’s Mobile Food Pantry distribution site in Salem and this past fall donated more than 1,500 school supply items to United Way to distribute to students across southeastern Connecticut. Charter Oak is also a Gold Level Benefactor to United Way and sponsors United Way’s annual Campaign Celebration event.

Orenstein and Wayne Burgess, Charter Oak’s Supervisory Committee Chairman and President of the Southeastern Connecticut Central Labor Council, served as Co-Chairmen of United Way’s 2014 fundraising campaign, which raised more than $5.7 million to assist charitable groups, non-profits and those in need across southeastern Connecticut.
