Coast Guard Football, Season Preview

Dear Bear football fans:

The 2018 schedule features five home games and just one home opponent, Maine Maritime, that has played here in New London in the last 13 years.  Coast Guard will host Union for the first time since 2004 and Norwich and WPI for the first time since 2005.

The Bears will open the season with back-to-back home games. The season begins on a Thursday at home hosting new football program University of New England, in its inaugural game, on August 30th at 7 p.m.  Coast Guard will then host Union on Sept. 8th at 1:30 p.m.  Coast Guard’s first road game and final non-conference game of the season will be Sept. 14th when the Bears travel to Nichols for a Friday night game.

The Bears will host Norwich University on Parents’ Weekend, Sept. 22nd at 1:30 p.m. before traveling to Washington, D.C. to take on Catholic on Sept. 29th. We had a great turnout playing so close to Coast Guard headquarters in 2016 and look forward to making the trip again this season.

Coast Guard will travel to NEWMAC Champion Springfield on Oct. 6th before returning home to host Maine Maritime on Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 13th at 1:30 p.m.  The Bears travel to MIT on Oct. 20th before closing out the home portion of the schedule on Nov. 3rd when they host WPI at noon for the sixth Annual Celebrate New London Day.  The annual battle for the Secretaries’ Cup will take place on Nov 10th at Merchant Marine, in a game carried by the ESPN family of networks to close out the regular season.

I hope to see you at Cadet Memorial Field this season where you can grab a bite to eat at the concession stand, have a seat, and enjoy watching the Bears battle on the gridiron.  You can follow the team all season long at www.uscgasports.com where you will also find updated team stats, links to all of the live video webcasts throughout the season, and our ticket purchasing page for both season and individual game tickets.
