Coast Guard Swimming Earns All-America Honors
The women's 800 freestyle relay broke the school record and become the first women's relay in program history to earn All-America honors while Chasse Sodemann earned All-America honors in the 100 breaststroke for the second time in his career to lead Coast Guard during the third day of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
The women's 800 freestyle relay of Sarah Passilla, Kristen Durham-Young, Emily Benson and Josie McGuireplaced seventh with the school record time of 7:29.60 to earn All-America honors. That relay had the eighth fastest time this season (7:31.09) and won the NEWMAC Championship.
Sodemann placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.08 in the finals to earn All-America honors.
He entered the championship with the 15th fastest time (55.41), but he swam at 54.92 in the morning preliminaries which was tied for sixth to earn a spot in the evening championship finals.
He earns All-America honors for the second time in his career in the event, as he placed sixth in 2017.
Eric Fuhs, who won the NEWMAC championship in the 100 breaststroke this season, had the 13th best time (55.38) entering the championship and had a time of 55.66 to place 17th .
