Coast Guard Track & Field Sending 6 Athletes to Nationals

Bears Send Six Track & Field Athletes to NCAA Championship

– Coast Guard will send six cadet-athletes to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston this upcoming weekend.

Sophomore All-American Kaitlyn Mooney has the fastest time in Division III this season in both the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters and will be the top seed this weekend and the DMR of Anita GreenAnna BeckAdora Lawrence and Mooney have the fourth best time entering the championship.

Mooney posted a school-record time of 9:27.25 in the 3,000 meters that she ran at the Boston University Terrier Classic and her school-record time of 16:27.30 in the 5,000 meters she ran at the Boston University Dave Hemery Valentine Invitational is the second fastest time in Division III history.

Mooney will not run the 3,000 meters at the championship. She will concentrate on two events. She will run both the 5,000 meters and with the DMR on Friday night.

The women's DMR of Anita GreenAnna BeckAdora Lawrence and Kaitlyn Mooney broke the school-record with a time of 11:44.06.

Green ran a 3:40.08, Beck a 58.3, Lawrence a 2:18.3 and Mooney a 4:46.6 in the record breaking performance which is now the fourth best time in Division III this season, The quartet had the 11
th best time at 11:52.52 entering the day.
On the men's side Josiah Davis has the third best time in the nation in the 800 meters, a 1:51.79 which he ran at the New England Division III Championship to finish second.

Ben Zarlengo has the 13
th best mark in the weight throw this season a throw of 61 feet, 4.75 inches which he did twice this season.
All six athletes also earned All-New England region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.

The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, Great Lakes, Mideast, Midwest, New England, South/Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season
