NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard is the top team in the New England Wrestling Coaches Association (NEWCA) Preseason poll and the Bears are the only team to have a wrestler ranked in all 10 weight classes.

Coast Guard which earlier in the week earned its highest ever national ranking, tied for 10th nationally in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Preseason poll, was 9-3 in dual meets last season and placed 2nd at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional a year ago.

Returning NCAA qualifiers A.J. Aeberli (174), Jon Wagner (197) and Pat Irwin (Hwt.) are all the top ranked wrestlers in New England while NCAA qualifier Paul Detwiler (184) is ranked second.

Also for the Bears, JD FitzPatrick is third at 141, Matt McGowan is fourth at 149, Parker Brunkala (125) and Kenji Beato (133) are sixth while Marco Dominguez (157) and Nick Moreno (165) are ranked seventh in the region.

Aeberli earned All-America honors with a sixth place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship at 174 pounds last season.

Coast Guard will open the season at the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield on Nov. 23rd.
