Dive Into Mystic Aquarium's Conservation Events This June

Special Conservation-Themed Programming Offers Family-Friendly Fun All Month

Mystic, CT – Mystic Aquarium’s June conservation events kick-off with World Oceans Day and continues with a variety of fun, family-friendly outdoor happenings all month long. From mud pies to pizza pies, each Mystic Aquarium conservation program is designed to be as informative as it is fun.
 
In a salute to the ocean planet, Aquarium guests are invited to learn more about the vital role of the world’s oceans while discovering simple ways to help protect this essential resource; all during  the annual World Oceans Day Celebration on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 11:00am-3:00pm. The whole family will share fun and informative hands-on activities with Aquarium staff. Activities are included with Aquarium admission and free to members.
 
Also on June 9, Mystic Aquarium is proud to host Mud Day as part of 2018 Nature Play Programming. Guests are encouraged to paint with mud, make mud pies, and simply get muddy as myths about mud are dispelled and the proven health benefits of playing in the dirt are explored.
 
Nature Play Programming takes place in Mystic Aquarium’s Sea School Green.  During each monthly program, the Green is open to the public from 10:00am to12:00pm for fun and engaging self-guided activities, crafts, and more. The outdoor family fun continues on June 13 from 5:30pm-7:00pm with Picnic in the Park at Beech Brook Farm in North Stonington featuring pizza and ponies. The Picnic in the Park program includes a pizza dinner, unstructured play activities and also provides the opportunity for families to meet other nature-loving families. This affordable night out is only $10 per family (up to 4 individuals) and $3 for each additional participant. 
 
The family-favorite Horseshoe Crab Watch after dark at Bluff Point State Park in Groton, CT rounds out Mystic Aquarium’s conservation events in June.  Participants join Aquarium staff at the beach on Thursday, June 28 to search for these “living fossils” from 6:30-9:30pm. With a hike on varied terrain that measures approximately three miles (1.5 miles each way), participants will get their feet wet counting horseshoe crabs and learning about their crucial role in the local ecosystem and beyond. The program cost is $5 per person. For families with younger children, the path out to the beach is stroller friendly.
