Eastern CT Symphony Orchestra Plays ''The Sounds of Winter'' Jan 9, 2016

The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director and Conductor Toshiyuki Shimada, continues its 69th season on Saturday January 9, 2016 at 8 PM with "The Sounds of Winter" at the Garde Arts Center in New London. Composer Polina Nazaykinskaya demonstrates her ability to sonically conjure imagery of a winter Russian village with her work, Winter Bells. The renowned violinist and St. Louis Symphony concertmaster David Halen joins the ECSO to end the first half in a performance of one of the most iconic works of the violin repertoire, the Violin Concerto op. 77 by Johannes Brahms. The evening’s finale is the rarely performed symphonic masterpiece, Symphony No. 1 by Vasily Kalinnikov. The concert is sponsored by Chelsea Groton Bank and Dominion.

Ticket holders are invited to a pre-concert chat sponsored by The Friends of the Symphony at 7 PM given by ECSO Music Director and Conductor, Toshiyuki Shimada, composer Polina Nazaykinskaya, and guest artist David Halen. Ticket prices range from $28 to $62 with $12 tickets available for any person under 30 years of age, and active or retired military personnel.
