Fiddleheads to Celebrate Birthday and Revamped Store

Fiddleheads Natural Foods Cooperative will celebrate its 8th birthday and recent renovations throughout the weekend of February 5 – 7 with live music, special sales and the unveiling of the co-op’s new owner benefits.

“This year our birthday celebration is particularly exciting because it will give us a chance to show off our new store layout, lower pricing, and improved owner discounts,” said Board President Susan Phillips.

The celebration will kick off on Friday, February 5th with a reception from 5:00 -- 7:00 p.m. featuring beer-tasting, snacks and live music by Dan Brothers and Wife, an acoustic Appalachian string band. On Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., the co-op will offer free samples including Amy’s pizza, local artisanal cheeses and breads, guacamole, mango salsa, local beer and activities led by a Spark Makerspace.  At 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Fiddleheads will serve free birthday cake. Sunday will feature the weekend’s birthday promotional sales in a quieter environment for people who prefer to shop with fewer distractions.

“If you haven’t shopped at Fiddleheads recently, this is a great opportunity to stop in, see our improvements, and perhaps become owners,” said Interim General Manager Wynston Estis. “Over the last few months, we’ve improved the flow of the store and made it more welcoming. We’ve also dramatically lowered our pricing on selected grocery staples, and during our birthday celebration we’ll be rolling out new owner benefits, including owner-only sale pricing and coupons for 10% off an entire purchase every three months.”

“We think these new benefits will save our owners substantial amounts of money, whether they spend $10 or $100 each week at Fiddleheads,” said Phillips. “The community has been incredibly supportive of Fiddleheads for the past eight years. We think that our owners and other shoppers are going to be even more pleased in 2016.”

Fiddleheads Natural Foods Cooperative is owned and democratically controlled by approximately 1500 local residents. It is located at 13 Broad Street, New London and is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
