Groton Rotary Club Announces Scholar Awards Available

Groton, CT – The Groton Rotary Club through its Community Awards Foundation will award a total of $7,000 in academic scholar awards in June 2019.  Three (3) $2,000 scholar awards, which are one-time awards, are available to graduating seniors from Fitch Senior High School, the Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Technical High School and the Marine Science Magnet School.

Students may obtain applications for the scholar awards at each school’s guidance counselor office.  Applications are also available for download at the club web site at grotonrotary.org. The deadline for applying is Friday, April 19, 2019.

The Groton Rotary Club will also award a $1,000 scholar award to an adult student who is attending or wants to attend Three Rivers Community College.    The applicant has to either live or work in Groton and desires to return to school to continue their college education.  Candidates interested in applying for this scholar award may obtain an application at the club web site at grotonrotary.org. The deadline for applying is Tuesday, April 2, 2019.

Criteria for selection of the winning applicants include scholastic accomplishment, educational goals, extracurricular activities (including work) and financial need.  However, the scholarship committee will give heavy weight to community service and especially service to others in the spirit of Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self.”

The Groton Rotary Club raises funds annually to finance scholar awards and grants approved by its community foundation.
