Hot Rod Cafe Wins Awards for Chowder, Adds Local Craft Beers to Offerings

Typically known for their famous wings, Hot Rod Café is quickly becoming a destination for foodies and craft beer enthusiasts alike.

The restaurant recently took home three chowder awards at the 13th Annual Charity Chowder Cook-Off & Cabin Fever Festival at Olde Mistick Village. Hot Rod’s proudly won first place for Heartiest Chowder, tied with Frank’s Gourmet Grille for Tastiest Chowder and won third place for the People’s Choice award.

After winning both local and national awards for wings last year in The Day’s Best of Reader’s Choice awards and at the National Buffalo Wing Festival, Hot Rod Café owner Rod Cornish welcomed the chowder wins as a refreshing departure from the norm.

“We are and always have been proud of our reputation as one of the best places for wings in Connecticut but this is a nice reminder that we have lots of other great things to offer for people who are looking for more than just wings,” Cornish said. “Our chowder is also a big seller, as well as other menu items like the lobster grilled cheese. We’ve recently added several local and regional craft beers on tap as well.”

Hot Rod Café now offers new choices of American IPA, Ale, Lager and other brews on tap, from breweries based in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and more.  Beer flights of any 4 draft beers can be purchased for $8.50.
