From teaching poetry in Vietnam to living with Burmese refugees in Thailand, Tim will share photos, stories and lessons learned from a year abroad. Learn how to travel cheaply while immersing yourself in another culture. Ask questions and get inspired to take your own adventure!

Tim Flanagan teaches social studies and photography at Stonington Middle School. During the 2016-17 school year, he took a leave of absence, sold his house, and set off on an adventure. He researched and taught for four months in Vietnam as a Fulbright Distinguished Teacher and spent the rest of the year volunteering, teaching, and traveling in Southeast Asia and Central America. Tim has also completed fellowships in Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Germany, and Cuba, in addition to personal travel in South America, Europe, and Asia.
