Mystic Arts Center Announces New ''Next Generation'' Exhibition

Several of MAC’s founders were under 40 years old when our organization came to be. Charles Davis was 57 when he founded MAC and worked side by side with younger co-founders, creating a continuity of community that nurtured artists for generations to come. Younger artists serve as a reflection on the unique issues and identity of their generation. Their aesthetic may come from a combination of influences, including the styles and subject matter of generations that precede them. The work that we see from young artists today may not stand the test of time, but will evolve into a visible measure of their creative growth. MAC seeks to broaden our young artist community and better represent the scope of the art world today.

To that end, MAC’s NextGen campaign will include events and exhibitions tailored to the interests of Millennials; young artists and art enthusiasts between ages 18 and 35. The NextGen campaign will kick off with the NextGen Exhibition, an all-media juried exhibition specifically for Millennial artists. MAC seeks artists who have a unique style, process, and vision. We encourage high school students, college students, and working artists to enter. The show will run for three weeks in February 2015 with an opening reception occurring in conjunction with MIXmasquerade, our winter masquerade party on February 6th. Subsequent events will offer discounted membership for the NextGen community.

MAC encourages all interested parties to begin preparing their work for receiving on February 1st, 2015. Two works may be submitted. All work should be original in concept and execution. All artwork must have been completed solely by the artist. All work must be current. Artists must be 18 years or older. All work must be suitably framed with wires and ready for hanging; no clips or saw tooth hangers. Metal frames must have hangers and wire. Work to be hung must not exceed 48 inches in either direction. Sculpture must be easily transportable, no more than 30 pounds. The MAC reserves the right to rent the gallery for outside events and to move work, when necessary, for these events. No work may be removed for the duration of the show. While the utmost care will be taken in handling all works, the MAC, its directors, and agents assume no liability for damage, loss or theft of submitted work. All artists are responsible for insuring their own work. The MAC reserves the right not to include any piece submitted for entry. The MAC retains 30% on all sales. A penalty of $10 will be charged for each work not picked up at the specified time. Unclaimed work will be disposed of at the discretion of the MAC. The submission of works to the exhibition constitutes an agreement on the part of the artist or artist’s agent to these conditions.
