In what has become a much beloved tradition, Sonia Bettencourt and Guitarras do Atlantico return to delight us with a December Fado performance. Fado is the folk music of Portuguese urban cafés and the ancient ports. It’s a haunting, wistful amalgam of Portuguese, Iberian, North African Arab and black, Moorish, Roma, and Atlantic islands roots. This is more than just the music of the Portuguese soul – it has won over the entire world. Fadista Sonia Bettencourt is a compelling, distinctive voice for this music, as are the three first-rate instrumentalists of Guitarras do Atlantico (Manuel Leite, guitarra portuguesa, Viriato Ferreira, viola de fado, and Michael Haffenen, viola baixo.)
