Spring Stride Run/Walk Event Returns to L+M Hospital on May 2

For the second year in a row, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital (L+M) is partnering with the Hartford Marathon Foundation to present a signature running and walking event to the community on May 2, 2020, with the return of Spring Stride.

The event, held on a Saturday, will include a 10K road race, a 5K fun run (and walk) and a children’s run, all starting and finishing at the hospital at 365 Montauk Avenue.

The annual event that returned last year after a seven-year hiatus is expected to draw hundreds of runners and walkers of all ages. Hospital President and CEO Patrick Green is asking all to “save the date” and join in for what he called “a rite of spring that celebrates the importance of family, health and exercise in our community.”

This event is for everyone, and L+M Hospital is partnering with the Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) to ensure that the event is also attractive to competitive runners and all others who may be out to set personal bests on the course that offers scenic views of Long Island Sound and the Thames River.

Beth Shluger, HMF CEO and founder, added that: “We are thrilled to partner with Lawrence + Memorial to bring back for a second year an event that is reestablishing itself as a regional staple in the running community. The L+M Hospital Spring Stride 10K and 5K offers a great opportunity for families to get fit and moving together in a welcoming environment supported by the hospital staff and the New London community.”

L+M Hospital staff will be on hand throughout the event, and a number of health offerings, including blood pressure screenings, are being planned. Food and beverages will also be available.

Registration for the event is open and all details can be found at https://www.hartfordmarathon.com

The race start time is 8:30 am for the 5K/10K and approximately 10 am for the kids’ quarter mile and half mile races. The HMF website also offers tips on training for those who want to start preparing for Spring Stride today.
