Stonington Community Center Opens New Tennis Courts for 2018 Season

Offering youth and adult clinics and lessons with tennis professionals

Stonington, CT – The Stonington Community Center (COMO) is excited to announce that in conjunction with its newly renovated state-of-the-art DecoTurf tennis courts, it has partnered with Mystic Indoor Sports (MIS) to provide professionally instructed tennis programs.

The renovated COMO tennis courts are now open for the 2018 tennis season. As part of the project, the courts were resurfaced with DecoTurf, a resilient multi-layered surface. The cushioned surface reduces pressure on players’ bodies, while maintaining the bounce of the game. The high contrast courts offer increased visibility for both players and spectators of the sport. The COMO tennis renovation project was made possible with the support of 143 community donors, as well as a United States Tennis Association (USTA) grant.

“Partnering with Mystic Indoor Sports was a natural progression,” said Beth-Ann Stewart COMO Executive Director. “They are dedicated to providing stellar instruction and we are eager to provide our community with instruction opportunities for all ages and abilities.

Spring and summer tennis clinics for both youth and adults are now registering at thecomo.org and will take place at the courts under the coaching of seasoned professionals including MIS tennis pros. Through the collaboration, in addition to COMO tennis instructors, professional tennis instructors from MIS will teach COMO tennis clinics, private and semi-private lessons.

“We are thrilled to partner with the COMO as we work together to grow the love of racquet sports in the region,” said Jerry Albrikes, MIS Managing Partner and Director of Tennis at Mystic Indoor Sports.

Courts will be open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Membership can be purchased online or at the COMO. Tennis members will enjoy key-card access to the courts during open hours and will have the ability to book court time online.

A free public court day (no membership necessary) will be held on May 18 from 3 - 6 p.m.

Additional questions about the tennis courts and tennis membership should be directed to the COMO front office at 860.535.2476.
