Stonington EDC, CERC to Host 'State of the Economy' Presentation April 30

Stonington, CT – As part of the ongoing implementation of the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD), the Stonington Economic Development Commission (EDC), with assistance from the Department of Planning (DOP), have been exploring ideas to increase the Grand List for Stonington. Ideas include ways to encourage and attract responsible private investment, and identifying sources of capital to fund public projects essential to the economic vitality of our community.

Economic Development expert Courtney Hendricson from the Connecticut Economic Resource Center (cerc.com) will provide an economic overview of the region, economic development opportunities, and economic outlook going forward. Following Ms. Hendricson, Jason Vincent of the Stonington Department of Planning will host a community conversation about the development of a Targeted Community Investment strategy. There are various areas of the community, which have public infrastructure needs and private investment opportunities. Alignment of these needs and opportunities, perhaps through a Targeted Community Investment could be a means to provide the necessary framework and tools to encourage responsible development within the community.

The Economic Development Commission will host a Community Conversation forum at Saltwater Farms on April 30th at 6:00 pm. to discuss the future of Stonington and the use of new tools to encourage responsible investment and add value to our community. The EDC encourages all interested residents, business owners and property owners to attend and provide input to further refine this idea.

Stonington Economic Development Commission is a Town Ordinance-established agency that works promote the development of business resources in the community and makes recommendations regarding how this can be achieved. It is comprised of nine regular members and three alternates, all of whom are town residents.
