The Arc New London County Receives Donation from Ledyard Garden Club

The Ledyard Garden Club awarded The Arc New London County $300 to assist with the purchase of a season-extending greenhouse for its Farm Stand in Ledyard.

This employment and vocational training program helps men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) learn valuable skills in a field that they love, enabling transition into competitive community employment. Participant employees are responsible for growing, harvesting and selling all produce.

Last Summer, employees ran a successful Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) pilot program, which is set to expand this season. The greenhouse will allow participant employees to start plants earlier in spring and include cold weather crops later in the season.

All employees of The Arc New London County earn minimum wage or higher. Guided by a mission of “In partnership for full equality,” The Arc New London County philosophically opposes sub-minimum wage wavers for people with IDD in Connecticut and nationwide.
