Three Rivers Community College Hosting Open House for Dental Assisting Program July 18

Three Rivers Community College is holding an open house for its newest non-credit program: Dental Assisting. At the open house the instructor will give a presentation on the Dental Assisting program as well as answer any questions. The event will be held on Wednesday, July 18 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm in room B120. Call 860-215-9028 to RSVP.

The Dental Assisting program is composed of two courses. Dental Assisting I, is a 130-hour course that teaches students how to work in a dental practice, introduces dentistry and dental assisting, and includes Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.  The second course in the program is Dental Assisting II, a 160-hour course that combines lectures and clinical work.

This career has an elevated projected growth rate over the next 10 years and prepares people to change their career to the dental profession. According to the Bureau of Labor Statics, “Employment of dental assistants is projected to grow 19 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. Ongoing research linking oral health and general health will continue to increase the demand for preventive dental services. Dentists will continue to hire dental assistants to complete routine tasks, allowing the dentist to work more efficiently.”
