One-Day Free Event Showcases Mental, Physical Health

Eastern CT  – The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, in partnership with the Mohegan Tribal Council, has announced that the fourth annual Total Life Expo will take place Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at Mohegan Sun’s Convention Center from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Total Life Expo is a quality-of-life event that encompasses all aspects of living well in mind and body. It is presented by the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT and the Mohegan Tribe, and is made possible through generous support from Mohegan Sun and Supporting Sponsors Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, First Physical Therapy, and Optum. Thanks to these sponsors’ contributions, the Total Life Expo is presented free and open to the public.

Highlights of the 2016 Expo include flu, whooping cough, and pneumonia vaccinations hosted by ShopRite Pharmacy; free mental and physical health screenings; a Red Cross blood drive; healthy cooking demonstrations led by expert local chefs; dance performances from talented regional troupes; health, safety, and science exhibits; a kids’ pavilion; a CT-made artisan market; dozens of exhibitor booths; and the Total Life Fitness Challenge, which opens this year’s Total Life Expo.

The Total Life Fitness Challenge returns for its second year at the 2016 Total Life Expo. Contestants will get their blood pumping through a grueling two-mile obstacle course with stairs, a tire run, culvert crawl, hay bale hurdle, balance beam, 8-foot wall, traversing walls, and assorted fitness stations. Fitness Challenge participants will receive a free t-shirt afterward. Registration for the Total Life Fitness Challenge begins at 7:45 a.m. and continues until the Challenge starts at 9 a.m. at Mohegan Sun’s Thames Garage.

Proceeds from the Total Life Fitness Challenge help support the Frenchie Pegram Scholarship Fund at Norwich Free Academy.

Eastern CT’s children and families are encouraged to attend the Total Life Expo. Special kids’ activities include an inflatable obstacle course, live entertainment, safety and science demonstrations, creativity exercises, and up-close encounters with live animals from local nature and animal protection organizations.

“The Total Life Expo shows our region’s residents how to live well,” said Tony Sheridan, President & CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT. “By organizing this regional health expo, we aim to show how all of us can improve our lives, mentally and physically. From the very young to senior citizens, the information and services available at the Total Life Expo are valuable to all.”
