Why participate?
- Make a Timely Difference: Winter and holiday food drives are widespread, but summer donations are often lacking. Over 33,000 residents, including children, in NL County are food insecure. Help us feed neighbors in need throughout the season.
- Team Building and Friendly Competition: Many participants have internal food-collection competitions, which contribute to strengthening teamwork and motivating positive change. Plus, the friendly competition aspect lets you go head-to-head in your industry to enact positive change!
- Fosters Goodwill: The event is highly publicized, including advertising by The Bulletin, The Day, Hall Communications, and Full Power Radio. This competition has raised $20,000 in monetary donations and nearly 14 TONS of food since it was founded.
- Local Impact: The event will benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way/ Labor Food Center. Their Mobile Food Pantry delivers fresh food weekly in local towns, and provides food supplies to over 80 free emergency programs in New London County.
Final food collection is held at Surplus Unlimited in Norwich on June 7. Challenge categories include overall highest gross weight, overally highest monetary contrbution, and one for each business category based on gross weight.
