Bradley International Airport Preparing for Busy April Vacation Travel Period

The Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) is once again getting ready for a busy period of travel at Bradley International Airport (BDL) as passengers take to the skies for April vacation.

Between April 9 and 20, it is estimated that more than 121,000 people will depart from BDL.

“Bradley International Airport is ready to handle the influx of passengers who will be taking to the skies,” said Michael W. Shea, Executive Director of the CAA. “Thanks to our growing list of nonstop flights, it is no surprise we are expecting another busy period of travel.”

Here are some important travel tips for passengers to consider during spring break and beyond:

Arrive Early

The busiest travel times at BDL are between 4am to 7am due to the number of flights departing in the span of a few hours. Passengers should make sure they are in BDL’s terminal ready to check in with their airline and go through security at least 90 minutes before their flight, while leaving additional time for parking.

Know Where to Park

Passengers can check parking availability before arriving at the airport by visiting the airport’s website. Digital message boards will also be available on-site and will direct you to open lots upon arriving at the airport.

Pack Appropriately

Passengers are reminded to organize their carry-on bags and checked baggage to ensure they comply with all Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guidelines. Visit the TSA website for additional details and to learn which items are allowed and which ones are prohibited.

Book Added Convenience

BDL’s concierge service, in partnership with Travelers Aid International, offers passengers custom-tailored service during their journey through the airport. The service is beneficial for older adults traveling alone, families with children or anyone with special travel needs. A concierge associate will meet passengers curbside, and help them get through check in, security, and down to their gate. Visit BDL’s concierge service website for additional details and pricing information.

Order Food Ahead of Time

BDL Market allows you to pre-order and pick up your meal from a growing list of airport restaurants so you don’t have to wait in line. BDL Market does not require downloading an app. To browse menus, order, and pay, simply visit the BDL Market website.

Don’t Forget the REAL ID Deadline

Anyone looking ahead to future travel should be mindful of the REAL ID deadline, which is quickly approaching. Beginning May 7, 2025, passengers flying domestically who use a driver’s license or state-issued ID, must make sure it is REAL ID compliant, which is noted by a star in the upper right-hand corner. Visit the DHS website for additional information and resources.

BDL now offers nonstop flights to more than 45 destinations on 12 different passenger airlines across the US, Caribbean, Bermuda, and Ireland. In addition to its air service growth, BDL is getting ready to unveil major terminal expansion projects in 2025.
