The Czech National Symphony Orchestra returns to Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on the UConn Storrs campus following their triumphant 30th Anniversary U.S. tour in 2023, which also featured their Carnegie Hall debut. The concert will be held on Thursday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m. Doors to the hall open at 7 p.m. Under the baton of music director Steven Mercurio, CNSO is recognized as one of Europe’s first-rank symphonic ensembles and renowned for its versatility – the orchestra annually presents a broad program ranging from classical music concerts to contemporary genres, film scores, jazz, and musicals. Since 2005 the Czech National Symphony Orchestra has also organized the summer Prague Proms Festival, which with its impressive array of prominent international performers, appeals to a diverse audience year in, year out. The Storrs concert will feature solo performances by Sandy Cameron on the violin and Maxim Lando on the piano. Maestro Mercurio is an acclaimed and sought after arranger and collaborator and has created arrangements for a wide array of performers across multiple genres including Sting and Chick Corea. Most recently, he served as arranger, conductor and producer for Andrea Bocelli’s best-selling recording “Believe.” 2018 brought an interesting opportunity for the orchestra to tour Europe with the acclaimed musical La La Land, and notably, as part of the Symphonic Cinema project, they toured the UK for nearly two months, performing a program of box-office Hollywood evergreens, conducted by Ben Palmer.
