NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard Academy wrestling team has its highest ever national ranking as the Bears are tied for 10th nationally in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Preseason poll.
The Bears, who were 9-3 in dual meets last season and placed 2nd at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional a year ago, are only team from New England in the preseason poll which ranks the top 15 teams in the country.

All On Saturday, September 14th, over 150 riders participated in the 2nd Annual ConnectiCare Gran Fondo. The event honors the memory of Gordon Keller, a local triathlete who lost his life in a tragic accident while on a training ride. Eric Galvin has been named Chair of United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut’s 2019 Community Campaign.
Galvin is President of ConnectiCare, with more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry. In his new role as Chair, he’ll serve on United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut’s Board of Directors.

Coast Guard is coming off its most successful season in over a decade as the Bears finished 7-3 overall and tied for second in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 5-2 record. It was the most wins for the Bears since the team went 8-2 in 2007. Head coach Bill George, who begins his 21st season with a program record 70 wins, and the Bears welcome back 14 starters, seven on each side of the ball.

U.S. Coast Guard LTJG Nikole Barnes has teamed with Lara Dallman-Weiss to chase the dream of qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
Barnes and Dallman-Weiss, Team Perfect Vision Sailing, will next compete August 17-22 in Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Japan, which is the host venue for the 2020 Olympic Games.
The duo qualified in the Women's 470 by finishing 20th out of a 45 boat fleet at the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar regatta in Spain in April. The duo placed 15,16 and 25 The Coast Guard Academy Athletics Division has named Richelle Johnson the Academy's first NCAA Inclusion and Diversity Designee.
Johnson is a civilian staff member within the Office of Inclusion and Diversity, who has partnered with Athletics on several diversity initiatives. In her new position she will be charged with serving as the primary contact and conduit for diversity and inclusion-related information.

Last week, students from West Woods Upper Elementary School and Bike Friendly Farmington celebrated Bike to School Day with a ride along the Farmington Trail.

Since the 1982-83 Reliance Health announced this week that their Board of Directors has appointed Carrie Dyer as Chief Executive Officer upon current CEO, David Burnett’s retirement. Burnett, who has been the organization’s CEO for nearly 41 years, announce plans to retire by the end of 2019 in a press release last month.

Greensboro, NC – Joe Rodriguez broke the school record in the 50 freestyle and earned a pair of All-America honors to highlight the first day of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
Rodriguez placed third in the 50 freestyle with a school record time of 19.88 and was part of the 200 medley relay team with Patrick Jackson, Chasse Sodemann and Tyler Dominick which finished in eighth with a time of 1:29.98 to earn All-America honors.
It was the first two All-America honors AJ AeberliRoanoke, VA – U.S. Coast Guard Academy Junior AJ Aeberli earned All-America honors with a sixth place finish at 174 pounds at the Division III Wrestling Championship.
Aeberli, the fifth seed at 174, was appearing in his second straight NCAA Championship. He went 2-1 on March 8 to assure himself a top eight finish and the first All-America honors of his career.

At the end of every year it is the team at TapSnap headquarters' pleasure to pick out a few franchisees who have been making impressive headway in the photo booth industry and have been superlative in representing the TapSnap brand.

This award was created to recognize a Fresh Check Day coordinator who embodies the same spirit and commitment of Janice Fletcher, the former Director of Counseling at Lasell College, who passed away last July. New London, CT – Coast Guard will send a record 11 swimmers to the NCAA Division III Championships as seven men and four women will represent the Academy in Greensboro, N.C. on March 20-23.
The 200 medley relay of senior Patrick Jackson, senior Chasse Sodemann, sophomore Tyler Dominick and junior Joe Rodriguez posted the 10th fastest time in Division III (1:29.74) to earn a spot at the championship.
The 200 freestyle relay of sophomore Dan Jenkins, Rodriguez, Dominick and junior John Pompay had the Trailing by two points with less than a minute remaining, the University of Connecticut Avery Point women’s basketball team scored seven straight points on its way to a thrilling 84-82 win over No. 2 nationally ranked Massasoit CC in the Region XXI Tournament final on March 3.
With the win, the Pointers advance to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament for the second straight year.
UConn Avery Point is the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will play No. 3 seeded Owens Community College (Md.) on
New London, CT – Coast Guard will send six cadet-athletes to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston this upcoming weekend.
Sophomore All-American Kaitlyn Mooney has the fastest time in Division III this season in both the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters and will be the top seed this weekend and the DMR of Anita Green, Anna Beck, Adora Lawrence and Mooney have the fourth best time entering the championship.

Westkott Named NEWMAC Men's Co-Coach of the YearNew London, CT – John Westkott has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Swimming Co-Coach of the Year.
Westkott, in his 20th season as head coach at the Academy, earns NEWMAC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year honors for fourth straight season and the ninth time in his career. He shares the honor this season with Paul Bennett from WPI.

She also supported employee development through assessment, individual planning, and New London, CT – For the second time this indoor season, sophomore Kaitlyn Mooney has been named the Division III Women's National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Mooney returned to the track this past weekend two weeks after clocking the third fastest time in NCAA DIII history in the indoor 3000. This time, Mooney competed in the 5000 and made sure her name was higher on the record book.
