Air and Sea Celebration to Recognize CT's Submarine Century

In honor of the Connecticut Submarine Century and National Aviation Day, a special Air & Sea Celebration will be held on Friday, August 19 from 6 – 9 p.m. in the North Hangar at the Groton-New London Airport in Groton. Join the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce, Groton Business Association, and Mystic Jet Center for a night of excellent food, entertainment, and fun, all in the view of airplanes within an actual hangar.

The celebration recognizes Connecticut’s yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of Groton’s Naval Submarine Base, honoring all those who serve our community and our nation. Attendees will experience a night to remember as they dance and relax to live music by The Sue Menhart and The Wooly Mammoth blues bands. Guests will also dine on Hors D’oeuvres prepared by Beacon Bar & Grill and Ray’s Catering Chefs, while sipping on wines from Jonathan Winery and beers from Outer Brewery. All in view of airplanes and submarine memorabilia on display inside the hangar and outside on the ramp, this one-time celebration is a unique experience in honor of our U.S. Naval Submarine Base and Airport!

A portion of all event proceeds to benefit the Connecticut Submarine Century project to bring the sail of the submarine USS Groton home for permanent display as a monument to our region’s rich history of submarine design, building, sailing and service.
