Chambers of Commerce partner to present Groton-Stonington update
The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut and the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce to jointly host “State of Groton & Stonington” on April 28

STONINGTON, Conn., March 28, 2023 – The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut and the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce will partner to host the “State of Groton & Stonington” presentation and forum on Friday, April 28 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Hilton Mystic, 20 Coogan Boulevard.

The morning’s dais will feature Stonington First Selectman Danielle Chesebrough, City of Groton Mayor Keith Hedrick, and Town of Groton Manager John Burt. Presenters will share information about economic development projects, education, and other notable activities, as well as answer guest questions. Groton and Stonington have a total population of over 56,000 people, according to the 2020 Census. The governance of the village of Mystic is divided between the two shoreline towns.

The two regional business associations last came together for a similar presentation in 2019, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the April 28 program will be the first in-person Groton business update since.

“Connecting business and community leaders with their elected officials and policymakers is a key aspect of our Chamber’s mission, and this program has provided an informative and engaging platform for more than 10 years,” said Tony Sheridan, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut. “Our two Chambers jointly represent hundreds of organizations based in or servicing Groton and Stonington, and we look forward to presenting timely, topical updates to our constituency.”

“As a former Mayor of Groton, I fondly remember attending this event and how informative it was for the whole community,” said Bruce Flax, President of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce. “The Greater Mystic Chamber serves all of Groton and Stonington, and creating one event that touches the Mystic area and these towns is important for business owners, local residents and their political leaders.”

Tickets for the State of Groton & Stonington are available at MysticChamber.org or ChamberECT.com. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. on April 28, with presentations beginning at 8 a.m. Hot breakfast is included in the $25 Chamber member, $35 non-member price. Sponsored tables are also available for reservation.
