Charter Oak to Offer Free Security Seminars

Waterford, CT – Charter Oak Federal Credit Union will offer three important security seminars focusing on protecting individuals against the growing threat of financial fraud, scams and identity theft.

All three seminars are free and open to the public and will be presented by Frank Jarvis, Charter Oak's Corporate Security Manager. His career covers more than 38 years of U.S. Navy, police and detective work. Before joining Charter Oak, Jarvis served for 34 years with the New London Police Department, including 31 years with its Detective Division.

The first seminar, "How To Avoid Potential Scams," will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The seminar will discuss how online scams can affect a range of people and involve a variety of platforms, from online dating websites to job postings. The second seminar, "Identity Theft and Its Ramifications," will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will focus on protecting your identity. The seminar will outline steps to take to prevent identity theft and will address the actions needed in order to restore your identity and good credit. The third and final seminar, "Elderly Financial Abuse," will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The seminar will offer advice and tips on protecting the elderly from the increasing threat of financial abuse and scams.
