Chelsea Groton Foundation Awards Over $90k to Area Organizations

Groton, CT – The Chelsea Groton Foundation awarded $94,550 in grants to 59 non-profit organizations from Connecticut and Rhode Island this spring. Inclusive of these donations, the Foundation has provided over $2.1 million in total grants to the community since 1999. The Foundation reviews applications and awards grants two times per year.
 
“As a community bank, one of our most important responsibilities is to help improve the overall quality of life in the region,” said Michael Rauh, President and CEO of Chelsea Groton Bank. “The grants awarded this spring went to organizations that greatly impact our region in the areas of health, human and social services; education; economic development; arts and culture; and more. We are honored to be able to help area non-profits as they work to achieve their mission and serve the local community.”
 
Spring grant awards included: $500 to Healing with Horses at Wildrose Horse Farm in Uncasville to provide scholarships to at-risk youth so they can participate in horse-related activities; $2,000 to Higher Edge to expand the college admissions and financial aid coaching to high school seniors of New London public schools; $2,000 to Norwich Community Development Corporation to develop co-work space for employees of multiple organizations to benefit from services made available in a shared working environment;  $500 to East Lyme Puppetry Project, Inc. to support costs associated with the 2016 summer puppet shows; $5,000 to Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut for land development in Groton; and $2,000 to Westerly Area Rest Meals (WARM Center), Inc. to support costs associated with funding the soup kitchen and bagged lunch program for local children who are at risk for hunger during the eight weeks of summer vacation.
 
Each year, Chelsea Groton Bank and the Chelsea Groton Foundation support more than 200 local organizations through monetary gifts, grants, sponsorships, scholarships, employee volunteerism and food, clothing and supply drives. A full list of grant recipients can be found at chelseagroton.com
