Westkott Named NEWMAC Men's Co-Coach of the Year

New London, CT – John Westkott has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Swimming Co-Coach of the Year.

Westkott, in his 20th season as head coach at the Academy, earns NEWMAC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year honors for fourth straight season and the ninth time in his career. He shares the honor this season with Paul Bennett from WPI.

Coast Guard, ranked 16th nationally, placed second for the third straight season at the NEWMAC Championship after posting a record of 8-1 in dual meet this season.

Westkott has led the Bears to six conference championships (1999, 2001, 2004 and 2006-2008). The team has also finished second 10 times at the NEWMAC Championship meet. So all totaled in 20 NEWMAC Championships, Westkott has led the Bears to six championships, 10 second place finishes and third place four times.

The men's team has a phenomenal dual meet record of 152-43 for a winning percentage of .779 under Westkott during his 20 years.

Westkott and the Bears will now prepare for the NCAA Division III Championships in Greensboro, N.C. March 20-23.
