Coast Guard Track Athlete Qualifies for National Championship

Zarlengo Breaks School Record and Qualified for National Championship at Wheaton Invitational

Norton, MA – Junior Ben Zarlengo broke the school record in the weight throw, also qualifying for the National Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Wheaton Invitational. Coast Guard men's indoor track also had six DIII New England qualifiers.

Zarlengo had a first place finish in the weight throw at 18.36m to break the school record and qualify for the national championships.

James Duren had a second place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.18 and a first place finish in the 400m dash at 51.55 to qualify for the DIII New England's.

Josiah Davis had a first place finish in the mile with a time of 4:22.09 securing a spot for DIII New England.

Coast Guard finished in the top three spots in the 3000m. Andre Gallant led the Bears and earned the first place finish at 8:51.11 to earn a DIII New England qualifying mark. Colton Atkinson finished second a 8:52.57, also qualifying for DIII New England. Matthew Doyle finished in third place at 9:02.57.

Adam Jibril-Barnes qualified for DIII New England with a sixth place finish in the 60m hurdles at 9.00.

Geoffrey DeLorie finished in second place in the heptathlon with a time of 3:03.85 to earn a DIII New England qualifying mark.

The men's 4x800m relay are now ranked #1 in DIII New England. The relay team of Josiah Davis, Matthew Kerst, Sydney Johnson, and Benjamin Taminger finished first place in the 4x800 relay with a time of 8:05.84.

Coast Guard is back in action next weekend at the Terrier Invitational and the Springfield Invitational.
