Community Foundation Awards $15,000 to The Arc New London County

Norwich, CT – The Arc New London County received a $15,000 Southeast General grant from the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut to expand its aquaponics program located in Ledyard. A portion of the grant was made possible through the Baker Costa Mallette Fund.

The Arc’s aquaponics program is part of its agriculture and organic/green farming micro-enterprise, which trains and employs people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in all aspects of small-scale commercial vegetable farming; aquaponics crops include specialty lettuces, microgreens and herbs. The addition of vertical growing towers in the facility will significantly increase production and allow more people with I/DD to receive training that will translate into skilled jobs with area businesses.
