Anderson has deep roots in the eastern Connecticut region in music education. For nine years, she has worked in the Norwich Diocesan school system, the most recent being Saint Mary's School in Putnam. She currently resides in Putnam where she manages her own music studio.
Upon notification of her selection Kathleen Anderson had the following statement: "I am ecstatic to be selected to direct the ECSYO. I am looking forward to invigorating and building the ECSYO into an ensemble that promotes, preserves, and encourages student musicians to pursue not only their musical talents, but also an appreciation of orchestral music. It is vital that our society continues the legacy of the orchestral genre through this type of authentic learning experience, as well as sharing it with our surrounding eastern Connecticut community members."
Anderson herself played violin in the orchestra twenty years ago as a high school senior. Her primary responsibilities as Music Director include conducting the Youth Orchestra, which is comprised of middle and high school students with four to eight years of prior musical experience and selecting the appropriate musical scores for its student members.
Founded in 1967, the ECSYO performs three concerts per academic year. The ECSYO is an affiliate of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra (ECSO) based in New London. The mission of the ECSO is to perform high quality symphonic music and conduct educational outreach programs. For more information about enrollment, please visit www.ecsyo.com.
