Eastern CT Symphony Youth Orchestra Appoints New Music Director

The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Youth Orchestra (ECSYO) has appointed Kathleen Anderson as its Music Director. Kathleen (Kate) Anderson comes with a wealth of experience in music performance and education in the state of Connecticut. Currently, Anderson is the Director of Music at Tourtellotte Memorial High School in Thompson, where she conducts three performing ensembles and teaches classes in piano, guitar, music technology, and music theory. With thirty years of violin performance experience, Anderson was a member of the University of Connecticut Orchestra studying directly under Dr. Theodore Arm and Peter Sacco and has recently worked with the newly formed Northeast Connecticut Community Orchestra in Ashford under the direction of Yaroslav Tereshchenko.
Anderson has deep roots in the eastern Connecticut region in music education. For nine years, she has worked in the Norwich Diocesan school system, the most recent being Saint Mary's School in Putnam. She currently resides in Putnam where she manages her own music studio.

Upon notification of her selection Kathleen Anderson had the following statement: "I am ecstatic to be selected to direct the ECSYO. I am looking forward to invigorating and building the ECSYO into an ensemble that promotes, preserves, and encourages student musicians to pursue not only their musical talents, but also an appreciation of orchestral music. It is vital that our society continues the legacy of the orchestral genre through this type of authentic learning experience, as well as sharing it with our surrounding eastern Connecticut community members."
Anderson herself played violin in the orchestra twenty years ago as a high school senior. Her primary responsibilities as Music Director include conducting the Youth Orchestra, which is comprised of middle and high school students with four to eight years of prior musical experience and selecting the appropriate musical scores for its student members.
