As a result of the current health crisis, the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra has transformed its educational program, Music in the Schools, into an online resource for all to access, titled Music in the Homes. In the coming weeks, the ECSO will be posting videos to its YouTube channel at youtube.com/ectsymphony of educational videos provided by ECSO musicians. These videos will walk through the personal background of our musicians, musical concepts demonstrated by performed and recorded excerpts, and background about orchestral composers. The content is aimed at children in grades 3 through 5 and may be used by all, free of charge. Musicians and performers everywhere have been affected adversely by stay at home orders but creating at-home content such as Music in the Homes videos offers some employment opportunities. The ECSO aims to have all sections of the orchestra represented by these videos to create an expansive library of video content that can be used at any time. This marks one way that the ECSO is finding ways to reach the people in our region and beyond through its mission “to inspire, educate, and connect our communities through live orchestral music.” Funding for this program was provided initially for Music in the Schools by the R.S. Gernon Trust and the James P. and Mary E. Shea Perpetual Trust.
