Exhibit Opening- Monika Agnello of SERTA ARTES Gallery at La Grua Center

Exhibit Opening: Monika Agnello of SETRA ARTES Gallery
Friday, March 6 from 5-7pm

For the month of March, we are delighted to present the work of local artist Monika Agnello of Setra Artes gallery in Westerly in this exhibit titled, I'll Be Right Back.... Opening reception Friday, March 6, from 5-7pm. Exhibit will run through the end of March.

From the artist:
These are all the starts.
An accumulation from over the years.
Not one body of work.
These images are the first words of sentences...some may be paragraphs from chapters.
Reaching in many directions--with false starts included-
These artistic acts appear, sometimes flowing.
Others are sudden attempts and interruptions.
Then there are those that exist to thud the wall--
they all serve a purpose or none at all.
This has been my experience-
with gaps incomplete and significant
I'll be right back...

About Monika Agnello
After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in painting, Monika moved to Manhattan and then to Brooklyn where she kept a painting studio in Dumboi for several years. During that time she also worked in several galleries including Franklin Furnace (interning for its founder, Martha Wilson), as assistant director for Cristina Grassi at C&A Gallery, and at Stephan Stux Gallery in SoHo.

After traveling out west Monika returned to the east coast to teach classes at the University of Massachussetts at Amherst, where she also got a master’s in painting and printmaking.

Monika served as board member and exhibit director for over 10 years at the Ruth Wells Center for the arts, a non-profit serving towns in South Central MA and northeast CT. During this time she continued to exhibit regionally and take private commissions.

She created Sevengaits Project Space--an art gallery and performance space, as well as several studios in Southbridge, MA with Demetri Kasperson.

Monika opened SETRA ARTES gallery on Gold St. in Stonington before moving to 40 High St. in Westerly, where she currently is located.
