RE: HB 6468 An Act Concerning Incentives for Qualified Data Centers to Locate in the State

Dear committee members:

I am writing today on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut in support of HB 6468 An Act Concerning Incentives for Qualified Data Centers to Locate in the State. Connecticut is well positioned to attract investment from this growing industry that seeks a highly skilled workforce and benefits from proximity to the state’s established industries: finance, technology, defense, healthcare, and insurance. It is important that Connecticut become competitive with the majority of other states by offering incentives and institutional support to attract this highly valued investment.

The legislation provides for coordination from the Department of Economic and Community Development to fast-track project implementation, ensure coordinated rapid response on troubleshooting, and provide comprehensive aftercare service. The bill also offers incentives for much-needed development in Opportunity Zones and Enterprise Zones as well as communities throughout the state. It is structured to encourage substantial investments and long-term commitments to communities.

Connecticut should capitalize on its strong assets of a highly educated workforce, proximity to New York City and Boston, and focus on technology and innovation. The flexibility of the data center industry means this legislation could benefit any community in the state, urban or rural. On behalf of the Chamber, I write in strong support of HB 6468 An Act Concerning Incentives for Qualified Data Centers to Locate in the State.

Sincerely,

Tony Sheridan
President and CEO, Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut
