Assembly Biosciences has entitled its presentation Bugs to Drugs: Using Live Biotherapeutics for Treatment of the Human Microbiome.  Assembly Biosciences is advancing a new class of novel oral synthetic live biotherapeutics for disorders associated with the human microbiome.  Unlike conventional chemical-based drug therapies, Assembly is developing new therapies that are designed to use commensal bacteria to treat various disease states of the microbiome.  Assembly’s laboratories at the BioCT Innovation Commons are responsible for all pharmaceutical product development activities associated with Assembly’s microbiome technology platform, including drug substance (bacterial strains), drug product (Gemicel® capsules), analytical/quality testing, and stability. Scientists and non-scientists alike will be interested to learn about this exciting work taking place in Groton.

The Barstool Diplomats will close out the evening with a set of acoustic music. Mike Van & Kerry Bilda make up the duo Barstool Diplomats. Based in Southern CT, the Norwich natives have had a shared musical interest and appreciation for the past 25 years. Their unique style is influenced by the music of Bob Dylan, George Jones, Little Feat, Adam Ezra Group and REM. Barstool Diplomats appear as part of Make Music Day SE CT.

Make Music Day takes place in numerous other cities across the country and world and is coming to southeastern Connecticut for the first time this year. Spearheaded by the Southeastern Connecticut Cultural Coalition, Make Music Southeastern CT is a celebration of music on the summer solstice that is performed by anyone and enjoyed by everyone. Organizations throughout southeastern Connecticut have been invited to take part in the festivities and help show off our local talent and join the public celebration throughout the day. Ignite is please to be able to include Make Music Day in its monthly networking event.
