Internationally Acclaimed R.A.D. Self Defense Program to Be Held at Stonington COMO Beginning August 8th

The Stonington Community Center, Inc. (COMO) is excited to announce the introduction of a self-defense class tailored to women. The R.A.D. System of Self Defense was founded in 1989 and has since expanded their programming across the globe. Thanks to the efforts of over 8,000 dedicated instructors, RAD has become the world’s largest self-defense training organization in the world, and is the national standard in self-defense education.

What could you get out of R.A.D.? This 3-session training teaches maneuvers to help women protect themselves with confidence and force. You learn simple, easily remembered techniques from instructor Jennifer Thornell, who has taught karate since 2007 and R.A.D. since 2010. Her first karate instructor was one of the original R.A.D. self-defense instructors, and Jennifer has since studied several styles of karate and Judo. Training will be held in the COMO Annex, next to our Thrift shop at 45 Cutler Street in Stonington and begins Monday, August 8th from 6-9pm. The second session is Wednesday, August 10th, from 6-9pm, and the final session is Saturday, August 13th, from 9am – 12pm. The program is open to women and girls ages 16 and up and it is perfect for those heading off to college at the end of August. Cost for members is $50, nonmembers pay $70.  To learn more about R.A.D., COMO Membership, or any other COMO programming, visit www.thecomo.org. You may also call the COMO at 860-535-2476.
