UCONN’S JORGENSEN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS PRESENTS SPECIAL LATIN DANCE CABARET CELEBRATING 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PUERTO RICAN/LATIN AMERICAN CULTURAL CENTER

Prepare to dance the night away celebrating UConn’s Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center 50th anniversary with Orlando Ortiz & Karibe Mambo Orchestra on Saturday, June 11. As part of the long-awaited return of Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts’ cabarets, Latin food, desserts and drinks will be available when doors open at 7:00 pm. DJ Nervioso will be mixing live from the moment the doors open until Orlando Ortiz & Karibe Mambo Orchestra takes the stage at 8 pm.

Orlando Ortiz & Karibe Mambo Orchestra are a ten-piece Latin band that has been setting the tri-state area (NY, CT, NJ) on fire with their unique sound for almost 20 years. The band is an ensemble of seasoned musicians who have played in some of the best musical groups throughout the U.S. and abroad. First and foremost a dance band, they project a powerful and energetic sound, specializing in Caribbean music - Salsa, Cha-Cha-Cha and Son Montuno.

Rodney Rock, Jorgensen's Director, said he is looking forward to collaborating with UConn’s Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center (PRLACC) for this special event.

“We have collaborated with our colleagues from PRLACC for many years to bring numerous Latin themed events to both the UConn and greater Storrs community,” Rock said. “I am thrilled we are able to come together again to celebrate this wonderful moment for PRLACC, as well as the triumphant return of Jorgensen’s cabarets.”

Fany D. Hannon, director of PRLACC, is excited for this Latin cabaret.

“I love all of the special events we have collaborated on with Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts in the past, but I am particularly thrilled for this one.  We will be reconnecting with the alumni from the 1970s as we celebrate PRLACC’s 50th anniversary.  We are also grateful to Rod and everyone at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts for their continued support and collaboration."

Doors open at 7 pm with DJ Nervioso. Event starts at 8 pm. Latin Food/Dessert (Cash Only) & Bar

Orlando Ortiz & Karibe Mambo Orchestra is co-presented by Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts and UConn’s Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center (PRLACC).
