Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut Announces Record Scholarship Awards

The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut awarded $1,036,680 in scholarships to 323 students from across the region this year. Recipients come from 36 of the 42 towns in the Foundation’s service area.
Scholarships are a critical element of the Foundation’s commitment to supporting and empowering youth in Eastern Connecticut. “We are honored to carry out the wishes of our scholarship donors in making financial awards to help students attend and successfully complete higher education. Many of the students we help are the first to attend college in their families,” stated Program Director Jennifer O’Brien. This year, the Foundation increased its multi-year and renewal grants to help ensure students are able to complete their degrees.
The Foundation, in partnership with local nonprofits and school systems, identifies and supports other efforts for the region’s most vulnerable youth. These include early childhood education, after school programs, mentoring, college internships and financial resources beyond tuition assistance.
The Community Foundation’s scholarships are made possible through the generosity of donors who understand the value of opening doors for students and investing in the future. These caring donors have established 130 scholarship funds at the Community Foundation, awarding $9.8 million to over 3,100 students since 1983.
