SCORE Volunteers Provide Free Mentoring for Small Businesses in Waterford

Waterford, CT – The Southeastern Connecticut chapter of SCORE is providing free weekly mentoring in Waterford to start-ups and existing small businesses. SCORE counselors are available every Tuesday of the month at the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, 914 Hartford Turnpike.
 
"We really enjoy the opportunity to meet with and help people who want to start up or are running a small business in the Waterford area,” noted Betty Wagner, who leads the Waterford SCORE mentoring team. “We first listen, no matter what your business idea or challenge may be, to better understand your needs and then work closely with you as needed, whether it's creating a business plan, managing finances, marketing and social media, increasing sales, and other key areas that will help you succeed.”
 
The Waterford SCORE team has years of business expertise and professional experience to share. Betty Wagner received a Masters in Education from the University of Connecticut with a career as a Human Resources manager and administrator for employment, IT, accounting, and finance teams. Most recently, she held a variety of roles in state government as a Congressional liaison and with the CT Department of Labor with expertise in employment law.  
 
Ed Murphy received his BS in Economics from Villanova University and an MBA from George Washington University and has spent a career with a variety of national businesses managing sales, marketing, and manufacturing operations.
 
Peter Cooper received his BA in economics from Saint Lawrence University and an MBA in accounting from Pace University. He is a CPA with expertise in helping small businesses manage their finances.
 
SCORE is a resource partner of the SBA, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and has more than 10,000 volunteers in 380 chapters nationwide. The Southeastern Connecticut SCORE chapter has more than 40 volunteers who provide free business mentoring each month in Waterford, Guilford, Madison, Essex, Old Saybrook, Middletown, Norwich, New London, and Mystic.
 
In addition to free mentoring, SCORE provides year-round small business workshops on a variety of subjects including how to write a business plan, managing small business finances, using QuickBooks, social media marketing, how to get a small business bank loan, product manufacturing, starting up a non-profit and more.
