SECWAC to Present Feb 3 Discussion on ''Sexual Violence in Conflict''

Professor Elisabeth Wood, Yale University, will speak on “Sexual violence in conflict:  why some armed groups engage in it and the policy implications” on February 3rd, 2016  at the Saybrook Point Inn, 2 Bridge Street, Old Saybrook, CT.
 
Reception begins at 5:30 p.m.; presentation begins at 6:00 p.m. 
 
Elisabeth Jean Wood is Professor of Political Science, International and Area Studies at Yale University and a member of the External Faculty of the Santa Fe Institute. At Yale, she teaches courses on comparative politics, political violence, collective action, and qualitative research methods.  She serves as Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Political Science; she received the Graduate Mentor Award for the Social Sciences in May 2013. She is the author of Forging Democracy from Below: Insurgent Transitions in South Africa and El Salvador and Insurgent Collective Action and Civil War in El Salvador, and is currently writing two books, one on sexual violence during war, drawing on field research in several countries, and a second on political violence in Colombia.  Details on her many recent articles and book chapters may be found at http://campuspress.yale.edu/elisabethwood.  Professor Wood was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2010. Milt Walters, SECWAC’s Chairman indicated we’re fortunate to have a leading author and scholar share with us “the horrors of sexual abuse and slavery as ongoing acts of war.”

Credit card payments can also be made at check-in. At the same time, you will be given dinner tickets for each reservation to be collected by the server as confirmation of your payment.
