Sport Jerseys Preferred at 'Home Field Advantage' Gala May 5

Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality needs your help striking out family homelessness!

Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality’s annual gala is set for May 5 at Mystic Seaport’s North Lawn and River Room at Latitude 41°. The sports-themed fun begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes games, gourmet tailgating fare, open bar, major league silent and live auctions, and dancing to the beat of Power Posse.  Attire is casual, with favorite team jerseys and sneakers encouraged.

The gala is the nonprofit agency’s primary fundraiser, with net proceeds supporting families in housing crisis throughout the year.  MASH’s mission is Preventing Family Homelessness.  Since its founding in 1998, MASH has provided case management and emergency housing assistance to more than 1,200 vulnerable children and parents in Southeastern Connecticut.

In 2016, MASH served 112 families facing homelessness.  With MASH’s help, 98 of these families found immediate housing and avoided the trauma of entering the emergency shelter system.  Other new prevention initiatives, including MASH’s Wheels to Work and Employment and Training programs, are targeting core issues that contribute to the housing instability of many working families.

Being honored at the May 5 gala is Andrew Maynard, former State Senator for the 18th Senatorial District.  During his two terms, Senator Maynard worked tirelessly on behalf of the region’s homeless population. He served as a board member of the Southeastern Connecticut Affordable Housing Alliance to increase the region’s supply of affordable housing in the region.  Senator Maynard also co-chaired the 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness in Southeastern Connecticut.

It takes a team to strike our family homelessness.  MASH is grateful to top event sponsors Melinda Elliott Carlisle, Broker/Realtor with Randall Realtors of Mystic; Foxwoods Resort Casino; Mohegan Sun; and Mystic Shipyard.  MASH also thanks corporate supporters Wells Fargo Advisors; MarketSpend, Inc.; Catherine Cleare Interiors LLC; Groton Utilities; Power Posse; and Coastal Wealth Management.

Tickets for the event are on sale now, and seating is limited. Individual tickets are $150.  For more information, visit the MASH website at http://www.mashshelter.org/mash-events.
