Stop&Shop of Pawcatuck Program ''Bloomin' 4 Good'' Benefits Jonnycake Center

The Jonnycake Center of Westerly has been selected as a beneficiary of the Stop & Shop “Bloomin' 4 Good” program for the month of June 2021.

The Stop & Shop “Bloomin' 4 Good” program, which launched in February 2021, is an easy way for shoppers to give back in the communities in which they live, work, and shop. Marked with a red circle sticker, every $9.99 Bloomin' 4 Good floral bouquet sold at a participating location supports a hunger organization local to the Stop & Shop in which it was purchased.

The Jonnycake Center of Westerly was selected as the June 2021 beneficiary by store leadership at the Stop & Shop located at 91 Voluntown Road in Pawcatuck, CT. The Jonnycake Center of Westerly’s Food Pantry will receive a $1 donation for every $9.99 Bloomin' 4 Good bouquet purchased at this Stop & Shop in June. Each dollar donated enables the Center’s Food Pantry to purchase 10 pounds of food to feed underserved neighbors.

“We are very fortunate to be the beneficiary of this innovative program,” said Lee Eastbourne, Jonnycake Center of Westerly Executive Director. “Flowers can brighten a room or make a person’s day. Now, they can fight hunger too. We encourage all our community to take home a Bloomin’ 4 Good floral arrangement from the Pawcatuck, CT Stop & Shop, and in doing so, help our Food Pantry’s efforts to provide food and care to neighbors facing crisis.”

The Jonnycake Center of Westerly is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Westerly, RI. The Center’s primary services include its Food Pantry, which provided over 233,000 meals to the community in 2019-20; Social Services, which distributed over $111,000 in emergency financial assistance to nearly 3,000 local residents in the last year; Holiday Gifts and Meals, which served over 1,500 struggling residents and children in 2020; a seasonal Community Garden, which provides sustainably-farmed fresh produce for its own Food Pantry and pantries of peer agencies; a seasonal No-Cost Farmer’s Market providing nutrition for neighbors in need; Volunteer Opportunities that welcome people of all ages and abilities; and a public-facing 7,000 square-foot Thrift Store, open to the public 7 days per week, which provides approximately 50% of the funding necessary for the Center to stay operational.
