The Light House Receives Grant From CT Office of Policy and Management for Van Acquisition and Building Renovations

The Light House is excited to announce the award of a $156,444 grant from the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management to The Light House’s Community Campus for the purchase of two new wheelchair accessible vans and the renovation of lighting and rooftop units.

The Nonprofit Grant Program was created in August 2013 by Governor Malloy as a way of helping nonprofit health and human service agencies ensure that their funding goes towards assisting those most in need of their services. The program has invested a total of $105 million in hundreds of the state’s nonprofit organizations since its launch.

Servicing mixed disabilities, the Community Campus is an individualized and participant-driven adult “day service option” which focuses on life skills instruction, community engagement, and pre-vocational training.  This grant will allow The Light House to purchase two new wheelchair accessible vans and repair outdated rooftop units and lighting systems with new units and energy efficient technology for the Community Campus. Executive Director of The Light House, Kassidy Brown, says this funding “is instrumental in ensuring that we can have the equipment and space necessary to help participants learn, grow, and become active members of the community”.
