Three Rivers College Foundation receives $5,000 from Pfizer Inc. to support Environmental Engineer

The Three Rivers College Foundation was selected by a Process Development Team from Pfizer Inc. in Groton, Connecticut as the recipient of $5,000 to support Environmental Engineering Technology at the College.

Pfizer’s Process Development Team for Small Molecule Synthesis was one of the winners of the 2020 Pfizer Green Chemistry Award for their process development to commercialization. The team spans the United States, United Kingdoms, and Ireland and includes colleagues from research and development, clinical manufacture, and commercial manufacture.

The funds from this award will be used to promote environmentally conscious coursework at Three Rivers that advance sustainability and promote green chemistry and engineering.

Michele Buetti-Weekly, Ph.D. stated, “As a team, we agreed that we wanted to donate our award to a local institution, and we have chosen Three Rivers Community College to support programs in Environmental Engineering. We hope this will help advance efforts in sustainability education here in Southeastern Connecticut.”

The Three Rivers Environmental Engineering Technology Program educates students on the general and technical aspects of environmental issues and common practice environmental procedures. Graduates have gone on to work for manufacturing firms, regulatory agencies, or have continued their education at baccalaureate institutions. Due to the expanding environmental industry and high levels of environmental concern in Connecticut, this program has been in great demand.
