TVCCA and 97.7 WCTY Host Modified Annual Food Drive to Assist Neighbors in Need

NORWICH, CT, October 25th, 2021 -- TVCCA and 97.7 WCTY will be at Big Y World Class Market in Norwich November 4th through November 5th collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations to assist our struggling neighbors in New London County. This marks the 23rd year that TVCCA and WCTY have partnered on this food drive.

All food donations benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Bank, which distributes the foods collected through the drive to more than 80 food pantries, shelters, childcare centers, community meal sites, and programs for the elderly. All monetary donations support TVCCA’s Client Emergency Fund, which addresses critical client needs not covered through other funding sources.
For the safety of the community, we ask that those coming to drop off donations remain in their vehicle while TVCCA volunteers retrieve the donation.  Donations can be dropped off from 8am – 6pm on November 4th or 5th. Monetary donations can be made on-site or online at www.tvcca.org.

The need for food remains high as we continue to see families across the region and state lining up at mobile food distribution sites.  Additionally, food centers, like the United Way, are seeing less donations being made from traditional sources like grocery stores.

Most needed food items include pasta, soup and broth, brown and white rice, canned and dried beans, canned fish and meat, peanut butter, dry cereals and oatmeal, canned vegetables, tomato products, shelf-stable milk, jams and jellies, and 100% juice.  All donations should be in undamaged and unexpired packages.  No glass containers are accepted.
