United Way Conducting Countywide School Supplies Drive

Gales Ferry, CT – United Way of Southeastern Connecticut wants to ensure kids go back to school with confidence and with the material supplies needed to perform successfully in the classroom. The organization is inviting individuals, groups, and businesses from all across New London County to donate school supplies or run a drive to collect items. All collected items will be distributed to schools in the county to help local teachers and students.

Last year, United Way collected and distributed more than 5,500 items through its drive.

Individuals interested in donating supplies can drop them off at any branch of Charter Oak Federal Credit Union, Chelsea Groton Bank, or Dime Bank between Monday, August 3 and Friday, August 14. Items may also be dropped off at United Way of Southeastern Connecticut at 283 Stoddards Wharf Road in Gales Ferry.

Businesses and groups interested in running their own drive to benefit local students are encouraged to complete their drive by August 14. Feedback from teachers has indicated the following items are most needed by their students, and these supplies can be highlighted when seeking donations to your drive: flash/thumb drives, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, binders, and loose leaf paper.
